Farewell Captain Dan

Our last larynx cancer survivors from eighties, Daniel Jones Lewis, Jr. (78) passed away on March 19th 2011. He was buried at Mt. Harmony Memorial Gardens in Mabelton, GA on March 22nd 2011. There was a graveside service attended by family members and friends. Greater Atlanta Voice Masters was represented by Janice Hayes, president, Shirley Olson, vice-president and Conrad Kerwath, member of Board.

Mr. Lewis was one of the founders modern Greater Atlanta Voice Masters together with Charles Hubbard, Jarrell Yates and others joined Jane DelVechio when she transformed Laryngectomee Planning Group Atlanta in to Greater Atlanta Voice Masters. He has his laryngectomy surgery 33 years ago and he uses esophageal speech recovery technique. He was a last regularly esphegal speech technique in our Club. For years Dan was our Team captain at Relay For Life, raising money for the fighting cancer trough American Cancer Society activities. He was also involved in activities of International Associations of Laringectomees. Mr. Lewis was retired machinist since 1990 and member of Loyal Order of Moose Lodge since 1982.
